North Carolina Values Coalition announced this week their ground team of over 200 pro-life canvassers with the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) reached a remarkable milestone when by knocking on their 250,000th door in North Carolina this year. North Carolina Values Coalition has partnered with SBA List and the Women Speak Out PAC to reach pro-life voters in all 100 counties in North Carolina.
Across the nation, SBA List and its Political Action Committees are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce abortion and ultimately make it unthinkable. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide. SBA List’s North Carolina team, led by State Director, Tami Fitzgerald, is a ground operation of five field staff and more than 200 canvassers who have been active across the state since 2014.
Fitzgerald, who also serves as the Executive Director of NC Values Coalition said, “We are informing members of our coalition on the importance of electing pro-life candidates in 2016. Because it is one of our top priorities during this election season, our team has joined with Women Speak Out PAC to knock on the doors of pro-life voters across the state who don’t think their voice matters. As we meet with people across the state we are seeing voters get motivated to vote in November realizing that they can make a difference.”
SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser discussed the effort, saying: “For the last nine months, SBA List has worked within battleground states on a massive ground operation that has just surpassed the half a million door mark. North Carolina, Ohio, and Florida are states critical to defeating Hillary Clinton. We intend to protect Richard Burr and other pro-life Senators by exposing their opponent’s commitments to rubber stamping Hillary Clinton’s radical abortion agenda.” The effort is also aimed at exposing Roy Cooper’s radical support for late-term abortions and taxpayer funded abortions.
Hillary Clinton has pledged to repeal the Hyde Amendment, a longstanding bipartisan policy preventing federal taxpayer funding of abortion on-demand under Medicaid. The DNC platform ratified at the DNC in Philadelphia last month, for the first time, explicitly calls for the repeal of this policy.
Dannenfelser continued to explain their mission by adding, “The position held by Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine, Deborah Ross and the national Democratic Party is profoundly unpopular – even among many members of their own party. That’s why our team is not only talking to pro-life base voters, but persuadable pro-life Hispanics and Democrats as well. This ground operation is an unprecedented effort to flex the political muscle of the pro-life movement.”
A Marist poll released last month found that a majority of Americans, 62%, oppose taxpayer funding of abortion including 45% of those who say they are “pro-choice” and 44% of Democrats.
In June SBA List and NC Values Coalition announced a successful joint effort to defeat Rep. Renee Ellmers in North Carolina’s 2nd District primary election after Ellmers actively worked in 2015 against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The team knocked on more than 12,500 doors across NC-02 in the weeks leading up to the June Primary.
